About Us

Papa Chuck's is located in the Historic Putnam District in Zanesville in the Guthrie-Granger House overlooking the Muskingum River. This twelve room house located at 375 Muskingum Avenue was built by Julius Guthrie about 1819. Moses Moorehead Granger bought the house in 1873 adding a second stairway to the house and constructing a large dining room with inlaid floor and paneled ceiling. The Grangers occupied the home until 1955. M. M. Granger was born in Zanesville in 1831, graduated from Kenyon college in 1850 and was admitted to the bar in 1853. He served as city solicitor, prosecuting attorney and judge of the common pleas court of the 8th district.

Mrs. Sherman Granger died in 1955 and willed the Granger House to the Crippled Children's Society. It was later operated for several years as the Sons of Italy Club and Enrico Ferni Lodge, Inc. It was then made into a restaurant by the Bucci family and then purchased in 1978 by Chuck Burckholter.
