About Us

Our organization was founded in 1982 by nine volunteers who, with private funding and community donations, provided in-home hospice care for 18 patients in our first year of operation. Today, Hospice of Central Ohio has cared for thousands of patients throughout Central Ohio.
With assistance from hundreds of dedicated staff and volunteers, we offer comprehensive hospice care from our offices in Newark, Lancaster, Columbus, Zanesville and the Selma Markowitz Care Center at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Many factors influence where patients and families receive care - wishes, desires, symptoms, the patient's support network and much more. Regardless of the setting, Hospice of Central Ohio's team approach to providing high-quality, end-of-life care remains the same.
We accept all eligible patients regardless of their ability to pay, complexity of care or severity of need.
Our team of highly dedicated and expertly trained individuals include physicians, registered nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and trained volunteers.
Medicare requires all hospices to provide services to a minimum standard. Hospice of Central Ohio goes above and beyond those standards to give the best care. Being a non-profit organization allows us to use money that would have been paid out to shareholders or private equity to provide more services
