The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) was originally enacted as part of the CARES Act to assist employers impacted by COVID-19. The ERC is a refundable tax credit against certain employment taxes. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, enacted on December 27, 2020, made a number of significant changes to the ERC.
